Review: Night’s Darkest Embrace – Jeaniene Frost

Night’s Darkest Embrace is a good story with demons, half and full-blooded, as well as fallen angels.

My Night’s Darkest Embrace review:

Mara is a strong half-demon on a mission, and that mission just might end up being as fatal for her as it was for her cousin Gloria. Most of Night’s Darkest Embrace happens in a different dimension on earth, where half-demons,  full demons and fallen angels live, but not together in harmony. Full demons feed on half-demons, and fallen angels feed on demons, so there is a certain hierarchy to take into consideration, even if mostly partial demons live in the dimension where Mara is trying to search for the two full demons who kidnapped Gloria years ago.

The mysterious Rafael (at least Mara thought he was mysterious, me, not so much… maybe if he’d had a different name?) has also been on Mara’s mind since she had first been in this dimension, and now, she found the leader of them all to be even more attractive than she remembered.

A quick read, Night’s Darkest Embrace is written in first person point of view from Mara’s perspective, so the readers only get to know what Mara knows. She explains the world, and the way things work, maybe a little too much – she could have shown me a little bit more instead of telling – even if it was very dark there.

All in all, I enjoyed Night’s Darkest Embrace, it’s set in a different universe from what I’m used to with Frost, and the world is one I’d like to come back to.

All I had to do was not be stupid until dark, less than ten minutes from now. I wasn’t going to make it.

Now that I was here, a feeling of peace washed over me. Maybe it was because traveling through dimensions was my birthright as a partial demon.

Rafael kept a loose form of law, but “accidents” were common. No surprise, considering everyone here was at least part demon, and the day people with demon blood could completely obey rules would be the day things got snowy in hell.
